The Lake

Joseph, me, Kathy and Jeff at Ouachita

Me, Sarah and Kathy at Beaver
Like I said before, Joseph and I are completely obsessed with going to the lake. If we ever have a free weekend, which we seem to make sure we do, we are at Lake Ouachita. This past weekend we went to Beaver for a wakeboarding tournament and we had so much fun. It brought back so many memories of getting out of class in college and heading up there everyday to get a few hours of wakeboarding in before it got dark.
Joseph has so many good wakeboarding buddies up there and they are so amazing to watch. JJ, one of our good friends, runs a boat shop, Arrowhead, so he was helping with the tournament. It was really nice to see him again and I could tell Joseph missed all of his hard core wakeboarding days.
It was so funny b/c all of these guys are trying to sell us a new boat, you know, the new souped up Malibus with all the hardcore wakeboarding technology. We are so happy with our boat I dont know if we will ever sell it. Joseph got an all black Crownline for his highschool graduation and it is the most gorgeous boat on the lake. He has kept it in immaculate condition....which I wouldnt expect anything less from my perfectionist husband! sometimes wonderful...sometimes annoying...haha
Sarah and Jared went out with us, and like always we had a blast. They are such important friends to us, we are so lucky to have them so close.
Jeff and Kathy were with us too. We pretty much hang out with them every weekend, whether it is at Ouachita, Ft Smith or Fayetteville. It is amazing how close we have all become in such a small amount of time. I told Kathy the other day that I wish we would have known each other as well when we were planning our wedding b/c they definately would have been in the bridal party. They are just so much fun and easy to be around, which is hard to come by.
We are headed back to the lake this weekend with Jeff and Liz and maybe Kathy and Jeff (hopefully).
Im sure it will be as fun as always! Cant wait!
till next time
Ciao!

Celebrating our 1st anniversary with our new blog!

Mom and I at Brewski's

Joseph and I on our honeymoon in St. Martin

My step family

My brother, Bryan and my mom, Marilyn

Joseph's family

I have enjoyed all of my friends blogs some much that I decided I would start one myself. Even though we do not have any children yet, we are always keeping busy with work, our new baby cocker spaniel Lola, keeping up our new home, traveling to new places, and spending all of our extra time at the lake. We are completely obsessed with the lake actually. I really can't imagine our lives with out the fun and relaxation we find at Lake Ouachita.
I am married to my wonderful husband Joseph and we just had our first anniversary last night. (sorry so many wedding photos, but these are the best pics of all of my family)
We drove up to James at the Mill in Johnson, where Joseph took me on our first date. That date will be 6 years ago on September 7th of this year. Wow. I truly cant believe it has been that long.
But what a wild ride we have had together.
In November of 2005 Joseph and I went on the wildest ride of our lives, season 9 of the CBS television show, "The Amazing Race". It was the hardest, yet most exhilarating experience of our lives. We always joke about how we have already seen so much, everything is boring from here on out! haha.
I cant wait to share our lives with all of you who we love. And I cant wait to share in your adventures along the way!
Ciao!
Monica Meadows

Com'on everybody let's do the Conga

(+) It is free.
(-) You have to bring your own chair if you want a seat - otherwise, please just stand on the ankle-tingling grass.
(-) You may not always get a clear view of the stage, especially if the guy beside you would have no qualms about stepping up and standing right in front of you instead.
(-) It's the end of the day and not everyone has had a chance for a shower. Depending on the weather, you'll soon need another shower yourself.
(+/-) There's enough sequin passing up and down the stage to cover every inch of a truck.
(+/-) Some of the humour is fairly crude, but hey, it's funny.
(+/-) There are 13 year-old girls in small silver dresses and boots belting out Hokkien heartbreak/life's-tough songs like this year's favourite 十二蓮花... followed by middle-aged men belting out other Hokkien heartbreak/life's-tough songs.
(+/-) There're some parts of the audience present who believe that the actual, intended audience are the spirits of the dead released from hell.

Put all this together and it is hard to understand the lure of the Getai. Yet J and I would stand and watch this variety show for an hour or so. This year at the Taoist temple near our flat was especially well-received, even though the funny woman in Royston Tan's 881 seemed to have passed on the baton to a much younger and slimmer host/singer.

Not quite a Getai, Sound Stories last weekend at Zouk was just as enjoyable, sans Hokkien and sweaty men but as unsparing in the use of sequins. If nothing else, it was great just watching the white-haired crowd dance, laugh and claim their music.

The Gypsy and Rahimah Rahim at Zouk

In this way, it is not that difficult to understand what makes the Getai, Sound Stories or any live performance appealing to its audience. It is as one would enjoy a conversation with a friend, or that understanding, celebration and experience of something that is both your very own and shared with a neighbour.

=====
p/s "Sound Stories" should be taking place same time next year as part of the Singapore Heritage Festival. Tickets come with 1 drink. Amps recommend that you take your parents to Zouk!

maybe tomorrow

turtlepower
it certainly wasn't yesterday!

It's been a long time since I felt like drawing my fellow train commuters. Last weekend, feeling more refreshed, I could not resist doing a quick sketch of a tiny old lady slumped in a corner seat (her outfit was too well colour-coordinated). J suggested the text Maybe Tomorrow:

Y: Hmm, yes... Procrastination - I like! It works well with the baby turtles suggesting longevity and the start of new life - so why must we always hurry?
J: Oh, what I thought was more like she was telling herself that she would live just another day, to die maybe tomorrow, but not today.
Y: ...ah.

That same weekend we celebrated Grandma Y's 88th birthday. She no longer remembers who she is. She barely remembers any words. She holds on to the angbao I gave her, but only for a moment, returning it to me with the words - "koochi koochi koochi".

Friends, at the end of it all, so little remain, so little matter.

Two weeks compressed into one

Yo people! been slacking recently with everything. even the cls blog! hee sorry =x
ok here goes 2 compressed weeks

After much crap and the sian stuff
it is always hardwarming to go for a nolstagic trip to high school

So we went. of course w/o dom's best friend.. whatever la i wonder why u all say that haha

Photobucket

Haojiemei goes to the high school. for some hao food

Photobucket

Yeah Yeah~ Even the express-lane-phobic came.

Photobucket

Tantalisyn could finish all her food?!

And as usual. we had loads of sleeping

Photobucket

Timtay asleep. even in sleep he shows his strength. flexflex woah

Photobucket

the ultimate. mcwc mugging technique. use it and u are way beyond the event horizon. by sleeping, rate of increase of absorbtion is more than proportional to the amount of work done put in by your brain, W=Fs

Photobucket

We have Jeenloong sleeping. My fav shot ^^ taken with one hand and the other to pose for him XD

Speaking of which. Jeenlong's been slightly lucky as of late.

From source B written by prof mok, we know that JeenLoong, from xiang nian his princess, to securing his dreams of his life by engaging in their dreams once again by having a chacha date with Lizzin.

Photobucket

"Save that dance for me again" Lizzin

So they sent a volley of passion hot steamy smses. You MAY want to refer to Source B to figure out the contents.

Haii. Then now. Shortly a week later. this had to be observed

Photobucket

First you dance with lizzin. then u dance with Aresgirl. then u sms. then you have this. hmm. really wonder what goes on.

Photobucket

At the 6v outing at orchard,

Photobucket

We can observe from the above picture that Jeenloong, just like Koreanna and her good friend, are having a peach-flower-luck streak.

Photobucket

We invited Owj to outing before he left. Sorta like a farewell.

And guess what. At the final moments of parting. The pioneer and grand master of the AOSA left us the ultimate move.

WARNING. DO NOT PRACTICE W/O GAINING THE BASICS LIKE THE CROSS LEG VARIANT AND WALL LEVI.

AOSA MASTER MOVE 051. 两袖清风
Two sleeves in clear winds.

1MBA! To make things harder the manual was recorded SIDEWAYS to facilitate the difficult learning curve of this advanced move. THUMBS UP!

But then, just like markcheng's waterbottle.

Life goes on. So the new chem tcher arrived

Photobucket

Picture of convenience! Ms chen's no and email and stuff are shown!

Even though she wont go with us to highschool when sian to eat. wont invite us to wii. wont be letting us eat some 66% dark chocolate. wont be continuing the AOSA tradition..

Well. Life goes on. Welcome to HC! hope we will have a gd time

Photobucket

Life goes on with Edwin and Feli (:

Photobucket

And one of the members of the 东方神起 Tongzi got the Hokkien proficiency award! MOMG we can now spread our influence beyond japan and korean into the Hokkien market woah XD

Photobucket

Dong ge clips his hair. Doesnt seem very long to me tho. hmm

Photobucket

Meng ge does some heavy mathematical tanking.

Photobucket

There was zhen who was obviously up to some hankypanky with his yufei

Photobucket
Photobucket

But surprisingly can still slp while patuo-ing! Wake up! Anger in the air!

Photobucket

6v had GEMS in collaboration with the upcoming Racial Harmonic Day, where we constantly experience a net restoring force acting towards the equilibrium position so that we do not cause anymore racial riots and/or discrimination against some tintay.

Photobucket

Wash hand first before. So we wont have to whole class take mc tmr.

Photobucket

Gong3 Qing4 stunned by sifu's prowess tossing ability

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Had much fun tossing and twirling them. And creating huge holes. And wasting ard10 pratas.

Photobucket

Of course we ate them. We even dabaoed XD

Photobucket

In a quiet corner of the canteen though. Lizzin hugged jiamin, seeking for the comfort and care she needed. where was he to be?

Photobucket

Yet unknown to her. jeeloong was hidden away and forced to swallow and tahan this venomous, no doubt soft, squiggly worm for his atrocious deeds toward the many women of his life.

No one can save him.

Photobucket

To be trapped inside a neutral room. A room where zero gravtitational force is experienced. The force exerted by Leon F=GMm/R^2 is neutralised since its energy used as calculated by Leon's power*time ratio is not enough to overcome the energy req for the enthalpy change of neutralisation of the Gfield-less room.

Photobucket

Daniao. meep. i got alot of bird food to feast on. *Happy*

The legendary saga of jeenlong and his harem had just began to unfold.
Perhaps. We are merely on the tip of the iceberg.

What will happen to the fate of our young scrawny Malaysian lad?
WIll he suffer and finally die in the hands of the evil?
Will good triumph over evil?

will he be able to swoon all the girls?
Or awaken to his final destiny, and go for loyal MONOgamy.
By setting up huge barriers to entry for other girls from entering his industry. And being a unique product by proving how tahanable he is.

Time will tell. Go buy a clock if u havent =.=

Yesterday...

Yesterday - The Swingle Singers

I found this extremely touching and inspiring real life account while surfing forums and thus decided to post it here to share with you guys. Get into the mood for the post with this song. Click the play button and read on...

DO NOT PROCEED TO READ THE TEXT WITHOUT THE SONG.
Yesterday...JeenLoong, a scrawny Malaysian youth, sat in solitude. His pearly eyes glinted as though the stars in the night sky as he resided into the backdrop of the hustling and bustling KAP. Those eyes were filled with sorrow and despair as he gazed upon a neoprint of a girl in his left hand, a neoprint of a princess, his princess.

In his mind he sought to recollect the scenes during dance-sport sabbaticals, the moments when every instant was filled with bliss and ecstasy, the time when every thing else in the world became oblivious to him, however the memories were fading fast, just like the neoprint in his hands. His princess was so close yet so far, he knew she was nearby but could not feel her presence anymore, he knew that they were losing touch, and his tears welled up in his eyes.

He felt hopelessly inferior, if only he had confessed earlier, she would have been his for good. Now, its far too late, someone had already done so before him, he regretted his indecisiveness but he understood that regrets would only beget more sorrow.

On his right hand was a handphone with an unsent message: "Yanni, could you and Lizzin come over to KAP to have have dinner with me?" He pondered over whether he should send it, he was afraid of failure as his vulnerable heart was scarred by countless past rejections. However, Lizzin to JeenLoong was like oxygen to us, without her, he would never be able to stand up against world. He had no option, as he tapped on the "send" button, he prayed.

The response was unforgiving: "I'm so sorry, Lizzin wants to have dinner at my house." His prayers were not answered. Disappointment gripped him like a vice. He was immobilised, stunned by the biggest rejection he had ever experience. It took him awhile to recover. Nevertheless, he typed: "But my heart yearns for her, I am improving my English just for you Lizzin, why can't you sacrify abit for me? I missed the dance we did together during sabbatical, could you come down now and dance with me? ChaCha or Waltz?"

The reply from Lizzin was absolutely unexpected: "Actually, I missed the dances we did together too, save that dance for me, I really cannot make it today. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, don't miss me dear!"

JeenLoong was stunned beyond words, he thought he was dreaming. He even went to the extent of asking the MacDonald cashier to pinch him. It was reality, a dream come true. His princess was his after all. All these happened yesterday...

Moral of the story:
1) Don't assume, always ask!
2) Don't listen to TongZi, take your time.
3) Don't lend your friends your phone.

If anybody feels like correcting the above story, you may want to msn me with the accurate details of messages sent.

The details of the story is purely fictional and any resemblance is purely coincidental.

goodbye

new/old (新/舊)

bye, youth and imagination

It's been a while since I last took a day off work to spend with J. It's either age or the lack of imagination (or both) such that when we had a chance to spend the day together last Friday, we were both somewhat at a loss as to where next to explore.

After brunch at our favourite Killiney Road kopitiam, for want of somewhere to go, we started to wander along Killiney Road. J was in no mood to test the gurkha guard at Dublin road, hence we just continued walking - place one foot ahead of the other, feel the ground.

wuxiaokang

bye, Xiao Kang

After the row of shop houses, there were the gates of the condominiums - and a quiet driveway soon appeared, lined with cars parked illegally under the wise, dense shade of banyan trees.

Of course, the legendary Mitre Hotel! (flickr photos here)

There was graffiti all along the wall of the driveway, at the end of which the two-storey building stood, now truly abandoned. In February this year, the courts had ruled that the hotel should be sold. I've heard so much about the hotel: its bar, the Australian boarder who had lived there for 30 years, its ghost stories, a short documentary about the hotel The Mitre Spell had played at the 2007 Singapore Film Festival...

abandoned/remembers (棄/記)
I was too spooked out. Only J dared to venture to the porch.

145 Killiney Road would be an address to boast about. In its place a few years later would no doubt be another block or two of private apartments for wealthy young Singaporeans and more expatriates. Another remote world on our small island.

bye, Nan Qiao

Somewhat saddened, we continued walking till we hit River Valley Road. From there, we went towards Mohamed Sultan Road. The doors to the pubs were closed, and even though their names have all changed - ah, the memories. Off Mohamed Sultan Road is the quiet Kim Yan Road. The low conserved shop houses there have been converted into homes and fancy offices. What did not survive was the original campus of the Nan Chiau Secondary School. All that remained were two gate posts.

gone south

Please, boys and girls, we did not build this island on sappy sentimentalism! Straighten your backs, dry your eyes, quit sighing and just move on.
