Native Sun recently hosted the 2nd Annual Dog Wash to benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets ("FCNMHP"). The mission of FCNMHP is to end shelter euthanasia of healthy cats and dogs through their free and low-cost spay/neuter programs. They raised $865 from the event this year. We brought in Joey (seen in the photo above) to get washed, he seemed to have a good time hanging out with the other dogs and left smelling fresh and clean. For more info they have a website and a Facebook page. Their next event is a photo session by Micheal J Portraits from July 16th-18th. FCNMHP will receive 100% of the sitting fee. Families and pets welcome and business headshots available.

I'm Contributing Again by Tom P.

"So I recently decided to start contributing to Jaxscene again. I never stopped blogging- I have for the past 5 months been blogging for REAX. I started Jaxscene a little over 2 years ago to promote a scene that without much money had no way to get the word out on what was going on. With such a long passion building this blog and sometimes posting 4 to 5 times a day, recently I felt is was slipping a bit. I feel like a lot of people use this site to find out what is going on. Maybe to see some pictures and video of those events. So I feel it's important for those events that I enjoy and I feel are important to be make people aware of them. I have plans to really get involved more and take the site in a little different direction."

Random Drugstore Hauls

Some random drugstore buys over the past week...

CanMake Cream Cheek Blush (S$17.90). Ever since my ma used her lipstick as blush on me eons ago, I've been intrigued by cream blushes. However, due to my skin sensitivity, I don't usually use blush since I already have this "natural" reddish tone on my cheeks.

Furthermore, I already have a nice Kose blush that my sister bought me as Christmas present last year.

But being in need of retail therapy, I bought this blush anyway. I got the 01 shade which is a very sheer shimmery pink with a faint peachy undertone since I have to be mindful not to overdo on my blush.

Next is Nivea Facial Cleansing Wipes (S$9.50). I got this out of desperation. We were having our family portrait taken and the ladies who did our makeup went over the top on eyeshadows and eye liners. I had this huge patch of black eyeliner that I almost scared my own self in the mirror. Not to mention that the makeup that they used was causing an itch on the skin.

The cream cleanser that I brought along wasn't performing well and we had to go for a dinner after that. So, I had to run to the nearest Watson's and purchase this fuss-free makeup remover.

A sigh of relief swept through us when we finally can get the gaudy and bad quality makeup off our delicate faces.

The Ingredients...

Lastly, Tea Tree Blemish Stick (S$10.95). The SebaMed pimple gel that I bought wasn't what I would exactly term as "working". So I was thinking maybe this would help (hopefully).

I stepped out of the lift, slipped, fell and hit my head this morning! Thank God the doctor says it should be just a bruise. If I was 70, perhaps something would have broken. What an odd coincidence that I had just finished this Kidnap Bob drawing two nights ago.

Cocoa Pebbles Maker Got Slammed By Hogan

Hulk Hogan has a new nemesis, and this time it's not a fellow professional brawler.

The wrestler and reality star is suing Post, the maker of Cocoa Pebbles, after noticing that the villain in a recent commercial bears a striking resemblance to his own iconic persona. The commercial stars the sugary cereal's animated mascots from "The Flintstones" going up against said competitor, which the lawsuit says goes by the name of "Hulk Boulder." According to a Tampa Tribune report, Hogan contends he used the name "Hulk Boulder" early in his career before wrestling promoter Vince McMahon decided he should have an Irish name. (A visit to Hogan's Wikipedia page revealed one of his early nom de brawls as having been "Terry Boulder", but there's no mention of a "Hulk Boulder".)

In the commercial, called "Cocoa Smashdown," Boulder is depicted with Hogan's trademark yellow-blond hair and handlebar mustache. Boulder is conquered by Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, and falls to "little pieces" in the ring.

Hogan claims Post cereals is using his likeness without his permission -- and that, in fact, they never even asked his permission. He claims that he brought his concerns to the company's attention in August, but Post continued to run the ads. Hogan has his own line of branded foods (burgers and energy drinks) at Wal-Mart, and claims that an unauthorized likeness in a food commercial could hurt Hogan's own interests.

Hogan's lawyer confirmed a lawsuit had been filed based on "misappropriation of Terry Bollea's (Hulk Hogan) likeness for commercial purposes." The attorney wouldn't reveal the exact dollar amount that his client is hoping to win from his lawsuit, saying only that they are seeking "damages that would represent fair compensation for the use of his likeness in the commercial arena."

While the "Cocoa Smashdown" character does bear a close resemblance to Hogan, some YouTube commenters beg to differ on the name, saying the character's name sounds more like "Bulk Boulder." Decide for yourself:

Haul: Shiseido Sale

Got to know about the Shiseido Sale through Ling. I know I shouldn't be spending anymore but I just couldn't resist the urge when the prices were going so low....

So on top of the eyeshadow palette that I've been lemming for so long, I also got some other stuff along the way...

First up is the Shiseido Maquillage Clean Contrast Eyes 2 in BL743 (S$20.00). This is part of the 2008 Spring collection and it's the eyeshadow palette that I've been lemming for the longest time since my sister got it.. So, I was hoping that this item was on sale. As fate has it, J.Low was able to find it straight away when I told her!! What else can I explain this except for affinity?

The whole package in mint condition:

The palette out of the packaging..

The pretty inside...

And the instruction at the back of the packaging..

Next, is the 2 single eye shadows (S$7.00 ea) that I bought on my own...

Cream Eye Shadow in PK214 and Powder Eye Shadow in BL146

After that is Shiseido Luminizing Color Powder in L3 Golden Beige (S$20.00). I got this as I was looking for a contouring powder. And this was my answer to it.

The brush layer. The brush was kind of crappy...

And the bottom layer where the actual content is.. 3 shades of beige..

Lastly, a Benefiance sampler set (S$30.00). I have always wanted to try out this range but never got around to do it. So since there is a sampler set, I just grabbed it straight away.

The sale is definitely worth the effort. The sale items are relatively new and some are expiring only in 2013. So I'm very happy with my purchases.

I had originally wanted to get some Cle De Peau products but I really couldn't bear the stuffiness and plus, I was controlling my spending.. So I made a beeline for the cashier since I'm more than satisfied with my spoils..

There was also a counter for Majolica Majorca and ZA. They are drugstore lines under Shiseido and I saw huge price slashes for these 2 lines, which of course attracted a huge number of ladies..

Review / Makeup: Loreal - Double Extension Beauty Tubes

Item Name: Loreal Paris - Double Extension Beauty Tubes
Size: Not Stated
Price: S$24.90
Available At: Watsons

Product Description from Manufacturer:
Now, get the look of salon lash extensions with Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara. The Beauty Tubes lengthen your lashes up to 80% and last all day!

What it does:
Based on tubing technology, this mascara helps to extend the length of the eyelashes having a coat of extension tubing at the end of your eyelashes. This technology is not exactly break-through since it has already been around for some time.

However, Loreal has upped the benchmark by adding an additional white conditioning coat as primer for better extension.

Why I bought it:
By any standards, I'm not a mascara fiend, despite my small puny asian eyes. Furthermore, I wasn't a regular makeup user until my current job. So, I've always been a drugstore mascara fanatic. Loreal have worked for me previously, so there is no reason why I should shy away from their new products.

Packaging:
Standard mascara packaging with double ends instead of the usual 1.

Price:
This is probably one of the cheapest mascara using the same tubing technology. Plus, there is an additional conditioning coat that other competitors do not have.

Road Test:

I have to admit that I reused the photos for a previous review. I dont see the reason why I should retake a same set of photos for this review since I'm using the exact product.

One thing to note is that this product kind of clump easier. So, go slow and easy on this.

On the whole, I did saw some lengthening effect and my lashes looked defined. Like spider legs. However, it doesn't really deliver when it comes to volumizing. No gripes on that since it's meant to lengthen, not give volume. There are rants that it doesn't hold a curl well. But for my case, I'm happy with the curl that this mascara gives.

There was ABSOLUTELY no flaks nor smudging for this mascara. However, my lashes did have this plastic feeling to it. But no major cause of concern here.

Removal is relatively easy with warm water and off it comes. Don't be alarmed if you see strands of mascara as this are the "extensions" that were helping your lashes look longer than usual. I did get one or two of my own lashes coming off, but I think it was due to me being impatient. Always be gentle when removing eye makeup, and not tug it like what I did..

Verdict:
For the price, I would say it exceeded my expectations. But for qualification purposes, I'm not exactly a Mascara expert and I don't usually have high hopes for Mascara. As far as I'm concerned, this product delivered and exceed my baseline. For those who have long lashes and looking for volume, then I would suggest to look somewhere else.

Hauls: Drugstore Finds

Aloha, more haul photos. :) This time, a trip to the local Drugstore, Watson's. Over the recent years, Watson's have expanded her products profile in Singapore at a very fast rate. Particularly the Japanese and Korean Drugstore brands. Hopefully, it would catch up with their counterparts in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Anyways, the items I bought...

First, a Scholl Feet File (S$7.75). I had one before but it broke and so, replacing with a new one. I have tried many products and this is the one that works best for me. Strong enough to rid the dead skincells, yet gentle enough to not cause any broken skin

Next is a new line of product that Watson's brought in. It's the Kiss Me range of false eyelashes (S$9.90). I bought something that looks less dramatic. By the way, does anyone know whether I should apply mascara when using false eyelases with criss-cross. If yes, how do I go about doing that?

By the way, this set comes with eyelash glue. I didn't see it because it was hidden by the opaque part of the packaging. I only saw it when I opened the box.

Next is Koji Eyelash Glue. I'm searching for a cheaper alternative to the Duo Eyelash Glue. And I had to get this tube when I saw it. It retails for S$2.90 and it's a small tube. So, even if it goes bad, I wont feel the heartache.

Up next is the Koji Mascara Protector and Comb (S$8.00). You use this during mascara applications so that mascara doesn't stain the eyelids. There's even a comb that you use to separate mascara clumps. Frankly speaking, I really feel that this is more of a marketing gimmick. A good to have contraption that we can live without. But since I've been trying to perfect the skill of applying mascara to my bottom lashes, I thought this little piece of tool would help me. Hopefully, it will.

Lastly, it's the SebaMed Clear Acne Anti-Pimple Gel (S$9.95). I've been getting some serious acne problems lately and needed some help with it. I wasn't keen on using Oxy as it is known to be very drying. So I got something milder. I've been using it since. As far as I'm concern, this might seem too mild when it comes to treating cystic pimples.
